The Friends of the Chalet of the Golden Fleece

Mission Statement:  The Friends of the Chalet support the Village of New Glarus to manage and preserve the Chalet of the Golden Fleece and the collection it houses.  We endeavor to raise funds, attendance, awareness and appreciation for the museum. 

More particularly, its objectives shall be:

a.     To increase/maintain interest in the Chalet of the Golden Fleece by any of the following means: publishing historical materials either in print or electronically; holding meetings, featuring workshops, lectures, or informative programs; conducting historic tours; and/or any other related activity the organization may so choose to undertake.

b.     To ensure that all programs, functions, and events of the organization, including membership, shall be made available to anyone regardless of race, color, age, national origin, marital status, disability, religious or political affiliation, sex, or sexual preference.

c.     Use best practice methods to preserve and protect the museum’s collections.

Key Accomplishments:

  • Secured National & State Register of Historic Places designation

  • Wrote successful grants for capital improvements and artifact restoration

  • Implemented a computerized inventory system for collections management

  • Developed and distributed brochures and managed social media outreach

  • Created and supervised a high school internship program to engage youth in preservation work
